Ethnic Studies & Gender and Women’s Studies Building

TKB Feasibility Study for the new Ethnic Studies & Gender and Women Studies building expanded a preliminary study presented in 2022.

The study has been respectful and highly sensitive to the cultural identity of each department, giving each entity a unique private space meeting its current and future operational objectives while projecting heritage and tradition.

The three-story + basement building will host two departments per floor interconnected by the lobby three-story atrium. This interconnecting central space provides a natural break between departments while promoting user’s serendipitous interactions at the intersection of circulation paths.

Overall, the ESGWS Building design aims to address UIUC’s contemporary goals and operational needs through an efficient building with a solid formal identity.
