Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago
The Visitor Center was a contemporary addition to the rich architectural history of the Bank's landmark building in the heart of the city's financial district. With a powerful facade complete with Corinthian columns and a formal lobby, the traditional building is both powerful and distinctive. It was developed as an intentional contrast to the existing building, using elliptical shapes, curves and diagonal walls to create a playful, dynamic space. Natural light, a freestanding exposed framework and a color scheme that borrows from shades used in U.S. coin and currency were utilized to make the space warm and inviting.
